Why Choose the Indian Air Force?

The Indian Air Force is one of the most prestigious and exciting career options for graduates in India. As an IAF officer, you get to fly fighter jets, manage cutting-edge technology, and enjoy one of the best lifestyles in government service.

AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) is your gateway. Conducted twice a year by the IAF, it's more accessible than NDA/CDS but equally rewarding.

AFCAT Eligibility 2026

  • Month 1–2: Master the basics — English grammar, mental math shortcuts, reasoning patterns. Read Lucent's GK.
  • Month 3: Focus on Military Aptitude. Study IAF history, aircraft types, ranks, and defense current affairs.
  • Month 4: Start mock tests. Solve previous year papers. Target 180+ out of 300.
  • Month 5: AFSB preparation — practice group discussions, lecturette topics, and personality development.
  • Month 6: Final revision + physical fitness preparation for medical exam.

AFSB Interview: The 5-Day Challenge

AFSB is where most candidates are eliminated. Only 5–8% clear it. The 5 days include:

  • Day 1: Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) test + Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PPDT)
  • Day 2–3: Psychological Tests — Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Self Description Test (SRT)
  • Day 3–4: Group Tasks — Group Discussion, Group Planning Exercise, Progressive Group Task, Command Task
  • Day 5: Personal Interview + Conference

Life as an IAF Officer

The IAF lifestyle is unmatched — modern air bases, officers' mess, adventure sports (paragliding, scuba diving, mountaineering), and foreign postings. Starting salary is ₹80K+ in-hand with free accommodation and medical.
